Year 2 2020 - 2021

Mrs Callaghan

Welcome to Year 2's Class Page

Teacher - Mrs Callaghan

Welcome to the Summer Term.

We look forward to the bright sunny days ahead.

We will continue to work very hard and will build on the skills that we have developed during the Autumn and Spring terms.

In our Religion work we will study Pentecost and learn how the Holy Spirit helps us to spread the Gospel message. In the topic of Reconciliation we will learn the reasons for rules in the Christian family.

In our English work we will link our writing to stories by a variety of authors such as Jill Murphy, Lauren Child, Roald Dahl and Michael Murpurgo. We will continue to practise our joined up writing using the Letterjoin formation. Our spellings will focus on prefixes and common exception words.

In our Maths we will study Length and Height, Time, Mass, Capacity and Temperature. Keep practising your counting skills - to 100 forwards and backwards, in 10s, 5s and 2s, odd and even numbers and in 3s as far as you can. Also continue to practise the 2, 5 ,10 and 3  Times Tables - and counting in Fractions.

In Science we will grow our own salad such as lettuce, cucumbers, tomatoes and carrots. We will then find out about the body including the muscles and skeleton. We will look at how our body moves and grows and the changes which occur when we exercise.

Our Geography topic will focus on the Wonders of the World - both natural and man-made, ancient and modern. Our History topic will look at Holidays in the past -  in particular seaside holodays in the 1950s and 1960s

P.E is on Friday. The children should come to school in their P.E kit on Friday. The school P.E kit is a plain white t-shirt, a pair of black or navy shorts and black pumps. It is crucial that the children wear appropriate footwear in order to ensure their safety on the playground. We will be doing P.E outside whenever possible, so the children should wear black or navy tracksuit bottoms/leggings and a black or navy tracksuit top or sweatshirt. Please also remember to send a water bottle, especially important during these Summer months.

Reading books - the children have been given a reading book to take home to read. Please bring the book to school each day, and also remember to sign your child's reading record book when you have heard them read. Reading books can also be accessed on the Bug Club website.

Homework will be assigned on Friday to be completed by the following Wednesday. Children are able to complete ther homework online through Seesaw, or on a paper copy.

Please do not hesitate to ask if there are any questions.
