Welcome to Year 4's class page!
Teacher Mrs Bills
Hello and welcome to Year 4!
It is summer term and the children have made a brilliant start with their learning and have settled back into school life. Thank you for supporting their learning at home.
This half term in English, we will be finishing our writing on the myth Theseus and The Minotaur, retelling the exciting story before moving on to write an information text linked to our Geography topic. In Maths we will be focusing on decimals and measurements, looking at money and time.
In R.E, we will be exploring Pentecost and what it means to share the Good News and how good news bring new life. We will be exploring how the Easter message is spread through the power of the Holy Spirit.
In Geography we are going to be learning about Earthquakes and volcanoes. We will be exploring the dynamism of the earth, learning about its structure, look particularly at the causes and distribution of earthquakes and volcanoes and their effects on landscape and people. This half term our Science topic is Electricity. The children will have the opportunity to investigate circuits and materials that conduct electricity. We will learn about what safety measures we must take to stay safe.
Your child has been provided an appropriate reading book based on the Accelerated Reader assessment. Please read and sign the child's reading record when they have read the book and send it back to school so that they can take the Accelerated Reader quiz linked to the book. Then they will be given a new book. It is expected that children in Key Stage 2 read for at least 20 minutes each night.
English and Maths homework will be assigned Friday and should be completed by Monday. Children are able to complete their homework online through Seesaw or on paper.
Every Wednesday, Year 4 will have P.E. Please ensure that your child comes to school with their PE kit on.
The school PE kit consists of a plain white t-shirt, a pair of black shorts and a pair of pumps. We will be doing P.E. outside whenever possible so the children can wear black or navy tracksuit bottoms / leggings and a black or navy tracksuit top / sweatshirt / hoodie.
Year 4 will be going swimming on Thursdays; the children are to bring their swimwear and a towel in a bag to change into. The children need suitable swimwear and a swimming cap. Please ensure your child is not wearing jewellery or are able to take it off themselves as they will not be allowed to swim with jewellery on. Thank you! We are excited to get back to our brilliant swimming lessons and having fun in the pool.
