Year 6 2020 - 2021
Welcome to Year 6's class page
Y6 Class Teacher - Miss Trimble
Year 6 is such an exciting year and the last step in our children's journey at St Chad's. We will be working hard this year as well as having lots of fun and making memories to take with us on the next step of life's adventure.
In our English lessons this half term, we will be looking at short narratives with flashbacks and explanations and then writing own own. We will also continue to develop our knowledge of SPaG (spelling, punctuation and grammar).
We will be learning about decimals, percentages and algebra in our Maths lessons.
Adaptation is the focus of our Science lessons. We will be learning about how plants and animlas are adapted to their environments.
The Impact of War will be the theme of our History lessons. In this unit, the children will research and compare the impact of the First and Second World Wars on our locality.
We will study the WW2 drawings of civilians sheltering in London tube stations by Henry Moore and will utilise our learning on perspective, depth and tone to create our own drawings in his style.
In DT, the children will design and make a phone cover. They will evaluate existing products and carry out research. They will use their findings to design a new product, creating it using textiles and appropriate techniques.
During our RE lessons, we will continue learning about the unity of the Eucharist and how it enables people to live in communion. We will also be learning about Lent and Easter.
We are lucky to have a sports coach from Manchester City helping us in our P.E. lessons.
Year 6 will have P.E. on Wednesday. The children should come to school wearing their P.E. kit on Wednesdays.
The school P.E. kit is a plain white t-shirt, a pair of black or navy shorts and a pair of black pumps. We will be doing P.E. outside whenever possible so the children can wear black or navy tracksuit bottoms / leggings and a black or navy tracksuit top / sweatshirt / hoodie.
English and Maths homework, along with spellings will be given out on Thursday. Homework should be completed by the following Monday either online – using Seesaw – or on the paper and returned to school.
Each child has been provided with a reading book based on their Accelerated Reader assessment. Your child should read at home every day; please sign their reading record when they have read. Once your child has completed their book, they will take the Accelerated Reader quiz based on the book they have read. On completion of the quiz they will be given a new book.
It is expected that children in Key Stage 2 read for at least 20 minutes each night.
