Year 5 2020 - 2021
Welcome to Year 5's class page!
Teacher Mrs Carlson
TA Miss Ahmed
We have had a great start to Year 5 and I am sure we will continue to have a fantastic year. We have lots of exciting and interesting things to learn, which will help the children to develop their inquisitive minds.
In English, Year 5 will be studying Shakespeare and writing discussions informed by our learning in Geography. In Maths, the children will be developing their understanding of multiplication and division and fractions. In R.E. this half term, they will be their mission and how they continue Jesus’ work today. In Science, the children will be building on their work from last half term learning about the life cycle of a human and the changes which occurs at different stages of life. During Geography lessons, the children learn about the Alpine region of Europe, how the Alps were formed and how homes are adapted to the climate.
English and Maths homework will be assigned Friday and should be completed by Monday. Children are able to complete their homework online through Seesaw or on the paper.
Year 5 will have P.E. on Wednesday’s and Friday’s. The children should come to school in their PE kits on these days.
The school P.E. kit is a plain white t-shirt, a pair of black or navy shorts and a pair of black pumps. We will be doing P.E. outside whenever possible so the children can wear black or navy tracksuit bottoms / leggings and a black or navy tracksuit top / sweatshirt / hoodie.
Your child has been provided an appropriate reading book based on the Accelerated Reader assessment. Please read and sign the child's reading record when they have read the book and send it back to school so that they can take the Accelerated Reader quiz linked to the book. Then they will be given a new book. It is expected that children in Key Stage 2 read for at least 20 minutes each night.
