Year 5 2020 - 2021
Welcome to Year 5's class page!
Teacher Mrs Carlson and Mrs Pennington
We have had a great start to Year 5 and I am sure we will continue to have a fantastic year. We have lots of exciting and interesting things to learn, which will help the children to develop their inquisitive minds.
In English, Year 5 will be studying non chronological reports and writing some descriptive fiction pieces. In Maths, the children will be developing their understanding of fractions, decimals and percentages followed by work on geometry. In R.E. this half term, they will transformation and how we can serve others. In Science, the children will be learning about the properties of materials. During Geography lessons, the children learn about trade and where products come from.
English and Maths homework will be assigned Friday and should be completed by Monday. Children are able to complete their homework online through Seesaw or on paper.
Year 5 will have P.E. each Wednesday and Friday. The children should come to school in their PE kits on these days.
The school P.E. kit is a plain white t-shirt, a pair of black or navy shorts and a pair of black pumps. We will be doing P.E. outside whenever possible so the children can wear black or navy tracksuit bottoms / leggings and a black or navy tracksuit top / sweatshirt / hoodie.
Your child has been provided an appropriate reading book based on the Accelerated Reader assessment. Please read and sign the child's reading record when they have read the book and send it back to school so that they can take the Accelerated Reader quiz linked to the book. Then they will be given a new book. It is expected that children in Key Stage 2 read for at least 20 minutes each night.
